Recipes : Thekera(Kokum) Sarbat

To get rid of the scorching summer heat and keep oneself hydrated & energized the whole day we need to drink some refreshing summer drink. Thekera ( Garnicia Indica, more popularly known as Kokum of the mangosteen family) Sarbat is such a summer cooler which will quench our thirst as well as highly beneficial. Instead of going for aerated drinks we should drink natural body coolers. Thekera Sarbat is a simple, easy to prepare a refreshing drink of Assam which can be tried by one and all in order to cool off the body heat and stay away from dehydration.  

Kokum is highly rich in B-vitamins, manganese, potassium, dietary fiber and garcinol. It has antifungal and antioxidant properties, cooling properties, good for digestion, anti-aging properties, helps in controlling cholesterol and weight loss.

Thekera or Kokum pieces-9-10, water, salt, black salt or rock salt.

Finely chopped fresh mint leaves.

Let's start preparing this simple yet highly beneficial summer drink which is an excellent summer cooler. Let me tell you sun-dried Kokum is also used as a souring agent and additive in food. It is also used as a preservative & has been used as a spice as well as medicine in stomach & digestion problems.

  • Take a jugful of water and soak the thekera pieces in it for 2-3 hours.
  • Take them out after the given time.
  • Mix sugar and rock salt in the thekera water according to your taste.
  • Now your refreshing and cooling thekera Sarbat is ready to drink.
  • Garnish it with finely chopped fresh mint leaves.
  • Keep it in the refrigerator for an hour. After an hour take it out and present before your family and friends for a rejuvenating Summer drink which will send them to the Chill Zone by beating the body heat and providing an unforgettable experience.
